Battle of the Hornet Alumni Goalies - Part II

Well the first battle of the Hornet Alumni Goalies didn't come off last week as Kris Mayottte led Union college to victory over Bentley, after Bentley elected to use Hornet Alumni Goaltender Jason Kearney in a game the next night (which Jason won) and not against Union. However, we have another Hornet Alumni Goalie Battle brewing this upcoming weekend in the USHL as Sioux City Hornet Alumni Goalie Musketteer Phil Tetzlaff should meet up against Chicago Steel Hornet Alumni Goalie Shaun Williams. Both goalies are doing quite well this year as Shaun has posted a 3.28 GAA and a .907 save percentage while Phil weighs in with a 3.37 GAA and a .892 save percentage. Seems the Pittsburgh Hornet Goaltending Factory graduates will be working overtime this weekend! Best of luck to both of our outstanding goaltending alumni.

Mayotte snags ECACHL Goalie of the Week Honors

Hornet Alumni Goaltender Kris Mayotte of Union College has been named the ECACHL Goalie of the Week. Senior Kris Mayotte (Pittsburgh, PA) snagged ECAC Hockey League Goaltender of the Week honors for the week ending October 30th. He had plenty of tricks for the opposition while treating Union to a pair of wins and helping extend the team's unbeaten streak to four games. The netminder combined for 63 saves on 67 shots. Three of the four goals he surrendered came on the power play. Congratulations Kris and keep up the good work !

Umberger to start for Flyers V. Capitals

The Philadelphia Flyers will have 3 rookie centers including former Hornet R.J. Umberger in the line-up to face the Washington Capitals.
Said Flyer Coach Ken Hitchcock of his rookie centers "The future starts tomorrow night."
With All-Star center, Keith Primeau, sidelined indefinitely with a concussion, Umberger could be around for a while.
"Players get hurt and we don't how long they're going to be out for," Hitchcock said. "We're going to get a real hard look at these guys right away."
Umberger, who made his NHL debut Sunday in Ottawa, was one of the most impressive players in the preseason.
"We just love his competitiveness," Hitchcock said. "He's a reckless player, and that type of player seems to have a lot of success in the NHL right now."

The Flyers have also drafted Matt Clackson, who currently plays at Western Michigan.

When We Were Rock Stars......!

As reported earlier, former Hornet JB Bittner was recently called up by Portland in the AHL. During his college days, JB was an outstanding player for the Ohio State Buckeyes, served as team captain for 2 years, and was known for his outstanding athletic ability, personal character and leadership abilties. JB was also the leader of a rock band known as "The Special Teams" at Ohio State University. Check out the video interview given by JB at the Ohio State University Varsity Hockey Team Website and learn why good music and good hockey are always a GREAT combination. Ohio State University, once a moribund hockey outpost, has been revitalized from the wonderful energy and great coaching of Head Coach John Markell and Assistant Coach Casey Jones to now rank as one of the top D-1 varsity hockey programs in the country.

Fuhs and Fitzgerald lead Ohio University

The ACHA DII Ohio University Bobcats are undefeated after sweeping St Louis over the weekend, and hold first place in the CSCHA conference.
