College hockey has reached the mid-way point of the season, and in the NCAA, former Hornet players are all making contributions to their teams. At Denver, freshman Patrick Mullen, from Upper St. Clair, has three goals and an assist for four points. Goalie, Kris Mayotte, of Union College is third in the NCAA with three shutouts, and is 9-6-1, with 2.70 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.
At St. Lawrence, former Hornet John Zeiler, playing in his senior year, has seven goals and nine assists for 16 points, and is second in team scoring Zeiler is a draft pick of the Phoenix Coyotes. Another NHL draft pick, defenseman Dylan Reese, a New York Ranger prospect, has a goal and four assists, in his junior year at Harvard; and defenseman Grant Lewis, has a goal and six assists in his junior season at Dartmouth. Lewis is a prospect of the Atlanta Thrashers. Matt Clackson, a draft pick last summer of the Philadelphia Flyers, has one assist in ten games played in his freshman season at Western Michigan; while New York Rangers’ prospect, defenseman Nate Guenin, the Ohio State Captain, has three assists in his senior season for the Buckeyes.
At Robert Morris, Sean Berkstresser has six goals, while Jace Buzek has three goals and six assists for nine points. Defenseman Eric Trax has an assist for the Colonials. At Bemidji State, who Robert Morris will face next week, Lou Garritan has a goal in five games, while Christian Hanson has a goal in 11 games in his freshman season at Notre Dame.
Bernie Chmiel has three goals and seven points in five games at Sacred Heart, Denis Kirstein has a goal and five assists in his junior season at Mercyhurst; sophomore Matt Schwartz has an assist in nine games with Bentley. Utica, while Randy Bauer has a goal and an assist in nine games with the Pioneers.
