Guenin receives post-season honors

Former Hornet defenseman Nate Guenin, of Ohio State, has received an Honorable Mention for the CCHA All-Conference team. Guenin, the Buckeye captain this season, earned conference accolades for the third time in his career. He was a second-team choice last season and an honorable-mention selection as a sophomore in 2004.

Nate ended this season with 11 assists and points while playing in all 39 games. Guenin, who also earned CCHA academic honors during his career, played in 151 games as a Buckeye, posting 47 assists and 53 points, as well as a +23 rating. He ends his career fifth in Buckeye history with 400 penalty minutes. He will now be available to sign with the New York Rangers, who drafted him in the fourth round in 2002.

While Nate Guenin leaves Ohio State after this season, another Western Pennsylvania player will be signing on to play there next season. Sergio Somma, who played with the ’87 Pittsburgh Hornets and then the Junior B Penguins, has committed to play for the Buckeyes.

Somma, a forward from New Kensington, has 20 goals and 24 assists for 44 points in 55 games with the USHL Green Bay Gamblers this season. Former Hornet Nick Tabisz is a current teammate of Somma with Green Bay.

While with the Hornets, Somma was a frequent line mate of Dane Hetland, who has committed to Division 1 powerhouse Miami.
