Alumni update November 14, 2005

  • Over the weekend in the NCAA, former Hornet Christian Hanson scored a goal for Notre Dame as the Irish defeated Bowling Green 9-4; and Denis Kirstein an assist for Mercyhurst as Holy Cross defeated the Lakers 10-3.
  • Lou Garritan scored a goal as Bemidji State defeated Wayne State 4-1, Bemidji ended the weekend by sweeping Wayne State 3-1.
  • Grant Lewis had a pair of assists as Dartmouth lost to Colgate 3-2, but defeated Cornell 6-1, and Kris Mayotte had 26 saves as Union defeated Princeton 6-2. Mayotte then stopped 29 shots on Saturday night to shutout Quinnipiac 2-0.
  • It turned out to be a good weekend for the DI Robert Morris Colonials, and especially for Sean Berkstresser. The former Pittsburgh Hornet scored a pair of goals and added an assist yesterday to help the Colonials to a 4-2 win over RIT at Island Sports. Berkstresser was instrumental in Saturday night's game, as he and former Hornet, Jace Buzek scored third period goals to help the Colonials come from behind and gain a 5-5 tie with RIT.
  • Ohio and Penn State settled for a split of their big weekend series, with the Bobcats winning 1-0 on a goal by former Hornet Clay Labrosse on a feed from another former Hornet, David Fitzgerald, Actually, if luck had fallen the Icers' way they would have tallied a power-play goal, and perhaps a win. Midway through the third period, former Hornet, Justin DePretis snapped a laser high and beat Baksh for a 1-0 lead. However, the goal was waved off because the linesman saw the net was knocked off. The goal was erased and Ohio scored the game-winner with just more than three minutes remaining in the game.
    The Icers won the second game 5-4: former Hornet Lukas DeLorenzo had a pair of goals for the Icers;
  • Yesterday's game was somewhat of a homecoming in professional hockey for former Hornet JB Bittner, who as a rookie, leads the Chiefs in scoring with a pair of goals and five assists for seven points. It was also a Hornet day in Wheeling with Bittner on the Johnstown roster, and former Hornets Bill Downey and Cliff Loya on the roster for Wheeling. The Nailers signed Downey over the weekend.
